Etymology

Apar is a present-tense form of a apărea, "to appear." The verb comes from Latin apparēre, built from the prefix ad- ("toward") and parēre ("to be visible, to show itself"). Romanian kept this Latin verb largely intact, as it did with much of its everyday core vocabulary. The same Latin root spread across the Romance languages and, through French and Latin borrowings, into English.
