Etymology
Romanian borrowed "atitudine" from French "attitude" in the nineteenth century, part of a wave of French loanwords that reshaped Romanian's abstract vocabulary. French "attitude" came from Italian "attitudine" (fitness, bodily posture), which traces to Late Latin "aptitudo", built on "aptus" (fit, suited). The Latin root goes back to the verb "apere" (to fasten, join), linked to the PIE root *h₂ep- (to take, seize, reach).
