Etymology
Romanian borrowed "unitate" from French "unité", reinforced by the learned Latin form "unitas, unitatis", during the eighteenth and nineteenth century push to re-Latinize the language. The root goes back to Latin "unus", meaning "one", joined to the abstract noun suffix "-tas/-tatem". The same Latin base spread across the Romance languages.
