Etymology
Romanian borrowed "cantitate" from French "quantité" during the nineteenth century, when scholars reshaped the language's vocabulary with Latin-based terms from French and Italian. It was not inherited directly from spoken Latin, unlike older Romanian words where Latin qu- became c- (as in "cinci" from "quinque"). The word ultimately traces back to Latin "quantitas, quantitatem", itself built from "quantus", meaning "how much".
