Etymology
Carnet came into Romanian from French carnet, which originally meant a small bound notebook. The French word is attested from the early 17th century and is traced to a diminutive of an older term for a folded set of pages, related to cahier (notebook). Romanian, like many European languages, borrowed the French word wholesale in the 19th century as part of a wave of French-derived vocabulary for modern administrative life.
