Etymology

Construcție entered Romanian in the nineteenth century, when the language absorbed large numbers of French and Latin words to modernize its vocabulary. It traces to Latin constructio, itself built from construere, meaning to build up or pile together. The Latin verb combines the prefix con- (together) with struere (to pile, to build), the same root behind English words like structure and instruct.
