Etymology
Educat is the past participle of the verb a educa, borrowed from Latin educare, meaning to bring up or rear a child. Educare is a frequentative form built on the same root as ducere, to lead, by way of the prefix ex- (out). The core sense is leading a child out of ignorance and into good conduct, which is why Romanian still ties the word closely to manners, not just schooling.
