Etymology
Romanian borrowed "conveni" from French "convenir" in the nineteenth century, during the period when Romanian intellectuals reshaped the language's vocabulary along French and Latin lines. The French word itself descends from Latin "convenire," a combination of "con-" (together) and "venire" (to come). Romanian already had the native descendant of "venire," the verb "a veni," so the two words share the same Latin root but arrived by different paths.
