Romanian dictionaries trace "covor" to a Bulgarian and Serbian word for carpet, itself borrowed from further east. It entered Romanian through contact with South Slavic neighbors rather than descending directly from Latin. Because it is a borrowing rather than an inherited word, no Proto-Indo-European root applies to it directly.
