Etymology
Dispărut is the past participle of a dispărea, "to disappear." The verb comes from Latin disparere, built from the prefix dis- ("apart, away") and parere, "to appear, be visible." The same Latin root, without the prefix, also gave Romanian a apărea, "to appear."
