Etymology
Romanian borrowed the solfège syllables do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si from Italian music theory, the same system used across most of Europe. The syllable "do" replaced the older "ut" (from the medieval hymn "Ut queant laxis") in the 17th century because it was easier to sing. Romanian took the term along with the rest of the solfège vocabulary as part of formal music education, not from inherited native vocabulary.
