Etymology
The syllable comes from the medieval solfège system devised from the Latin hymn "Ut queant laxis," in which each line begins one note higher. The second line starts "REsonare fibris," and the monk Guido d'Arezzo took its first syllable to name the second scale degree. Romanian inherited the syllable through the same fixed-do tradition used in French and Italian music teaching, not through direct descent from spoken Latin.
