Etymology
Cran is a regional word, used mainly in Banat and Transylvania, for what standard Romanian calls a robinet, a tap or faucet. It came from German Kran, brought by the Danube Swabian and Transylvanian Saxon communities who settled those regions. German Kran itself named the bird crane before it was extended, by the shape of its long bent neck, to lifting machines and then to spigots.
