Etymology
Romanian borrowed "rulotă" from French "roulotte", which originally meant a horse-drawn wagon used by traveling entertainers or Roma families before it came to mean a towed caravan. "Roulotte" derives from French "rouler" (to roll), itself from Latin "rotulare", built on "rota" (wheel). The word entered Romanian in the 20th century along with the spread of car-towed camping trailers, and it kept the French sense almost unchanged.
