Etymology
D-voastră is a written shorthand for dumneavoastră, Romanian's formal second-person pronoun. Dumneavoastră grew out of the phrase domnia voastră, literally 'your lordship', once used to address nobles and social superiors. Over time the phrase fused into a single word and became the standard polite way to say 'you'. The hyphenated form d-voastră shows up mainly in casual writing, texts, and emails, where the middle syllables get dropped much as English speakers write 'u' for 'you'.
