Etymology

Romanian borrowed "deranja" from French "déranger" during the nineteenth century, a period when Romanian absorbed large numbers of French words as part of its modernization and re-Latinization. French "déranger" itself combines the prefix "dé-" (undoing, reversal) with "ranger" (to put in order, to line up), which comes from "rang" (row, rank). Romanian simply took the French infinitive and fitted it with its own first-conjugation ending.
