Etymology
"Deschid" is the first person singular present of "a deschide," meaning "to open." The verb comes from Vulgar Latin, built from the prefix dis- (apart, undoing) attached to a form of claudere, "to close." The same Latin root gives Romanian "închide" (to close), formed with the opposite prefix in-. Over centuries the Latin consonant cluster smoothed out in Romanian to produce "deschide."
