Etymology
Descurca is built from the prefix des-, a Romanian reflex of Latin dis- that reverses or undoes an action, attached to the bound root curca, the same root found in încurca, to tangle or confuse. On its own curca does not survive as a free word in modern Romanian, and dictionaries treat its deeper origin as uncertain. The reflexive form a se descurca, to manage or cope, grew out of the literal sense of untangling oneself from a difficulty.
