Romanian borrowed "diagnostic" from French "diagnostic" in the 19th century, during the wave of French-based modernization of Romanian vocabulary. The French word traces to Greek "diagnōstikos", meaning able to distinguish, from "diagignōskein", to discern or know apart. That verb combines "dia-" (through, apart) with "gignōskein" (to know).
