Etymology

Dintru fuses two older Romanian prepositions: din, meaning 'from' (from Latin de plus in), and întru, meaning 'into' or 'within' (from Latin intro). Speakers welded the two together long ago to make a heavier, more solemn version of plain din. The word now survives mainly in fixed literary and religious phrases, such as dintru început, 'from the beginning', and dintru adâncuri, 'out of the depths', a line from the Romanian Orthodox Psalms.
