Etymology
Romanian borrowed "dramatic" from French "dramatique" in the nineteenth century, during the period when the language absorbed large amounts of Western Romance vocabulary. French built the word from Late Latin "dramaticus", which came from Greek "dramatikos", an adjective formed on "drama" (deed, play). "Drama" itself derives from the Greek verb "dran", meaning to do or to act. The word first described the theatrical genre and later widened to cover any tense or startling real-life event.
