Etymology
Evadat is the past participle of the verb a evada, "to escape". Romanian took this verb from French évader during the nineteenth-century wave of French borrowings that reshaped much of the language's vocabulary. French évader in turn comes from Latin evadere, built from ex- ("out") and vadere ("to go, walk"). The same Latin root also gives English evade and invade.
