Etymology
Romanian borrowed "executa" from French "exécuter" in the nineteenth century, during the period when Romanian intellectuals reshaped the language with Western Romance vocabulary. French "exécuter" itself descends from Latin "exsequi", built from "ex-" (out, to completion) and "sequi" (to follow). The core sense was to follow a plan or order through to its end, which later narrowed in some contexts to mean putting someone to death.
