Etymology
Franceză is the feminine form of francez, the Romanian word for French. It is built from Franța, the Romanian name for France, plus the suffix -ez, which Romanian uses to form many nationality adjectives, such as englez from Anglia or japonez from Japonia. The final -ă marks feminine agreement, needed for feminine nouns like limbă (language) or fată (girl). The root itself ultimately goes back to the name of the Franks.
