Etymology
Încălcare is the noun form of the verb a încălca, built from the prefix în- and călca, a descendant of Latin calcare, "to tread, to trample." The prefix adds a sense of motion into or across, so the verb originally meant to step onto or over something. That image of stepping over a line gave rise to the figurative sense: to break a rule or transgress a boundary. The suffix -are turns the verb into an abstract noun naming the act itself.
