Etymology
Fotografiat is the past participle of a fotografia, "to photograph". Romanian built the verb from the noun fotografie, itself borrowed from French photographie during the 19th-century wave of French and Neoclassical loanwords. That noun in turn combines Greek phos/photos, "light", with graphein, "to write or draw", so the underlying sense is "written by light".
