Etymology
Oară comes from Latin hora, meaning hour, which Latin itself borrowed from Greek hōra. Through the regular sound changes of popular Latin evolving into Romanian, the word's meaning shifted from a fixed unit of clock time to a looser sense of occasion or instance, mostly used with numerals to count repetitions. Centuries later, Romanian re-borrowed the same Latin root as oră, the modern word for hour, so the two now sit side by side as a doublet with different jobs.
