Etymology
Ochelari was formed inside Romanian itself, not borrowed whole from another language. It grew from ochi, the Romanian word for eye, with a suffix that turns a body part into the name of a device built around it. Ochi itself descends from Latin oculus, so the word ultimately points back to the same ancient root for eye and sight found across the Romance languages.
