Etymology
Impresie entered Romanian through French impression and Italian impressione, both descending from Latin impressio, impressionis, a noun built on the verb imprimere, to press into. The Latin verb itself joins the prefix in- (into, onto) with premere, to press. The word kept its core sense across all these languages: a mark or effect left in the mind, as if pressed there.
