Etymology

Romanian borrowed "perfect" from French "parfait" and Latin "perfectus" during the 19th century, when scholars deliberately reshaped Romanian vocabulary to align with its Romance relatives. "Perfectus" is the past participle of Latin "perficere", meaning to carry through to completion. That verb combines "per-" (through, thoroughly) with "facere" (to make, do).
