Etymology
Întreg descends from Latin integer, meaning whole or untouched. Latin built this word from the negative prefix in- and a root related to tangere, to touch, so the original sense was literally not touched, hence undamaged or complete. Romanian inherited the word directly through spoken Latin, unlike the later bookish borrowing integru, which came back into the language through French or learned Latin influence.
