Etymology

Romanian took "perimetru" from French "périmètre" in the nineteenth century, part of a wave of scientific and technical borrowings from French. French built the word from Latin "perimetros", which in turn came from Greek "perímetros". The Greek word joins "peri-" (around) with "metron" (measure), so the term literally means the measure around something.
