Etymology
Romanian borrowed "plictisi" from Modern Greek during the Phanariote era, when Greek was the language of the Wallachian and Moldavian courts. The Greek source verb, πλήττομαι (plittomai), means "to be struck" and came to carry the sense "to be bored or vexed". Romanian kept that reflexive sense in "a se plictisi" while also developing a transitive use, "to bore someone".
