Etymology

Pomenit is the past participle of the verb a pomeni, meaning to mention or to name in remembrance. Romanian borrowed a pomeni from Old Church Slavonic pomьněti, built on the Slavic root mьn- meaning to think or hold in mind, with the perfective prefix po-. That Slavic root goes back to the same ancient PIE root behind Latin memini and English mind.
