Asemeni is a shortened variant of asemenea, both built on the same stem as the verb a asemăna, meaning to resemble. The stem goes back to Latin similis, meaning similar, joined with the prefix ad-, meaning toward. Romanian fused these into asemene(a), and asemeni split off as a leaner, more literary form used mainly before a noun in the dative.
