Etymology

Romanian borrowed "record" from French, which took it from English "record". The English word goes back to Latin recordari, meaning to call to mind or remember, built from re- (again) plus cor, cordis (heart). The sense shifted in English sports usage to mean the best achievement on file, and that meaning spread across Europe, including into Romanian.
