Etymology
Recupera entered Romanian in the 19th century as part of the wave of French and Latin borrowings that modernized the language. It traces back to Latin recuperare, itself built from the prefix re- ('again, back') and a root related to capere ('to take, seize'). The word therefore literally means 'to take back'.
