Etymology

Reușit is the past participle of a reuși, "to succeed, manage." Romanian borrowed the verb from French réussir during the 19th-century wave of French and Italian loanwords that modernized the language. French réussir itself goes back to Old French issir, "to go out," from Latin exire, and that root also gave Romanian its native verb ieși, "to exit."
