Etymology

Rezerva entered Romanian from French réserver during the nineteenth-century push to re-Latinize the language's vocabulary. The French verb goes back to Latin reservare, built from re- and servare, meaning to keep or to guard. The deeper origin of servare itself is not settled, so no firm root can be given beyond Latin.
