Etymology
Schimba comes from Vulgar Latin excambiare, a combination of the prefix ex- and cambiare, meaning to exchange. In Romanian, initial ex- regularly reduced to s-, giving schimba. Cambiare itself was a Latin borrowing from a Gaulish word for exchange, so the root is not native Latin vocabulary.
