Etymology
Senzor entered Romanian in the twentieth century as a technical borrowing, most likely via French senseur, itself built on Latin sentire, to feel or perceive. The Latin verb also gave Romanian its native verb a simți, to feel, so senzor and simți share a distant root even though they look different. The word spread with the rise of electronics and industrial equipment.
