Etymology
Romanian borrowed serie from French série in the nineteenth century, during the wave of French loanwords that modernized Romanian vocabulary. French série descends from Latin series, meaning row or chain, itself from the verb serere, to join or link together. The core idea, things linked in a row, survives intact in the modern Romanian word.
