Etymology
Solar entered Romanian as a learned borrowing from French solaire or directly from Latin solaris, both built on sol, meaning sun. Romanian absorbed many such Latin-based technical and scientific words during its 19th-century modernization, replacing or supplementing older Slavic vocabulary. The word keeps its Latin shape almost unchanged.
