Etymology
Supune descends from Latin supponere, built from sub- ("under") and ponere ("to put"), the same base that gives Romanian pune ("to put"). Latin supponere covered both "to put under" and "to suppose", but Romanian kept the literal sense and developed it into "subject" and "submit". The word is a direct inherited form passed down through spoken Latin, not a later borrowing.
