Etymology
Târziu comes from the Latin adjective tardivus, itself built on tardus, meaning slow. The word passed into Romanian through the common spoken Latin of the region and kept its core sense of slowness shifting toward lateness in time. Related Latin descendants show the same drift from slow to late across the Romance languages.
