Etymology

Trimite descends from Latin trānsmittere, a compound of trans- ("across") and mittere ("to send, let go"). Over time the Latin prefix trans- wore down to the Romanian tri-, while the root kept the sense of sending something onward. The word has stayed in everyday use in Romanian since its Latin origins, unlike some Latin-derived verbs that got replaced by Slavic or other borrowings.
