Etymology

Vinde comes from Latin vendere, to sell. Vendere was itself a fusion of venum (a thing for sale) and dare (to give), so the original sense was literally to give for sale. Romanian kept the verb through unbroken Latin descent, and all Romance languages have close siblings of it.
