Etymology
Vrajă entered Romanian from a South Slavic source, close to Bulgarian and Serbian terms for sorcery and fortune-telling. It reflects the long contact between Romanian and Slavic-speaking neighbors, which left many words for folk belief and ritual practice. The word came in as a whole unit and did not develop further inside Romanian through native prefixes or suffixes.
