Etymology
أَذْهَب is the first person singular of ذَهَبَ, 'to go,' built on the Semitic root ذ-ه-ب. The same three consonants also form ذَهَب, the word for gold. Scholars dispute whether the verb of motion and the noun for the metal share one origin. Across other Semitic languages the root is attested mainly in the sense of gold.
