Etymology
إِضافِيّ is a relative adjective (nisba) built from إِضافة, 'addition.' That noun is the verbal noun of the form IV verb أَضافَ, 'to add' or 'to annex,' from the triliteral root ض-ي-ف. The same root yields ضَيْف, 'guest,' the person joined to a household. Adding the suffix ـِيّ turns 'addition' into 'pertaining to addition,' that is, additional.
